I wanted to get a new pair of non-slip shoes for my restaurant gig, as my last ones have worn out. I love Merrells so I was happy when I saw that they offer a slip-resistant shoe. However, I quickly find out that these are NOT slip-resistant. In fact, they are probably the most slippery pair of shoes I have ever worn. I’m very surprised that no one else has reported this problem. DO NOT buy these for restaurant work, it is a death sentence.Read more

Updated review after ordering a second pair 23 months after buying first pair:===========================================================:I ordered my second pair and have just begun wearing them. The new pair so far seems good. However I made the mistake of ordering Gunsmoke Grey instead of the color of my first pair, Dark Earth. I HATE the Gunsmoke Grey color, which is just different enough from the appearance on the web page for me to hate. I’ve been struggling with whether to exchange them. I don’t really want to return them, because the sale is over and I’ll probably have to pay full price for a different color replacement, but I just do not like this color.Otherwise, however, the new Jungle Mocs are fine. They are comfortable, and they don’t have the squeaking problem that my first pair had until I fixed it (see my original review below for details). My first pair was becoming a very loose fit over time, not at all snug like they are new, but not too loose to wear. My plan when I ordered the new pair was to continue to wear the old pair as my daily at home shoe, and only wear the new pair for work. The first pair, which was Dark Earth, is discolored after nearly two years of daily wear, but not as bad as I feared they’d be after two years. But I do mostly computer work and meeting with people. If I did a different type of work, the shoes could look a lot worse by now. My new pair is Gunsmoke Grey, which I don’t care for and regret ordering.I don’t use them for hiking or other trail use – I prefer running shoes or hiking boots for that – so I have no opinion about how they hold up off pavement.Overall these are excellent shoes.First Updated Review:After 16 months of daily wear, I’m still happy with these shoes, though I’m a little disappointed that they seem to be stretching, making the shoes feel looser. My big concern after buying them was the squeaking in one of the shoes, but the trick I described in my original review (below) did the trick. The shoe has never again squeaked. I still recommend these shoes.Original review:============The shoes have been fine since I found out how to stop them from squeaking. This is a problem many Merrell owners complain about. For me, only my right shoe squeaked. The left shoe has never squeaked. The right shoe squeak was barely audible at first, but after three weeks, it was becoming loud enough that I knew I could not live with it. I was ready to return them to Amazon, but fortunately I did some research first that allowed me to solve the problem. I’ve now owned the shoes two months and am completely satisfied. The way I solved the problem was to place two dryer sheets (fabric softener sheet) under the insole of the squeaking shoe. I was skeptical that it would work, but the squeaking stopped immediately and five weeks later, there’s still no squeaking. I’ve read that another solution is to sprinkle some talcum powder under the insole.I bought the traditional round-lug Moc rather than the Vibram sole. If I used the shoe for hiking, I’d have gotten the Vibram sole, but I prefer a lace-up shoe for rugged terrain. I wear these as my everyday shoe. They’re perfect for that. When I’m on the trail, I use hiking boots or running shoes.I bought the Jungle Mocs to replace a pair of imitation Jungle Mocs (Hathaway Comfort Mocassins) that I wore for six years and that held up well, but were never comfortable. The Merrells are a huge improvement in comfort over the imitations. I hope they hold up as well as the imitation mocs I was wearing before.I considered docking a star for the squeaking, but it was so easily solved that I decided to give the shoes a full five stars.Read more

I hate to review a product with 2,000+ reviews. I may as well delete it now because it might be seen by 2 people. HOWEVER, the ARCH SUPPORT is worth a comment. I had Florsheim shoes custom made for years specifically to achieve comfortable arch support.. If I try on 10 different running shoes at a store – (what is a store ???) —- possibly one will provide proper arch support. The rest are FLAT, and very uncomfortable. The ARCH SUPPORT in this shoe is fabulous — probably the best “off the rack” shoe I have ever owned. Other reviewers have covered everything else in excellent detail. As I read many reviews, I didn’t sense the excellent quality of arch support in this shoe — which for me is critical. I was 90% sure I would send them back – however……………………..AYRead more

I work on trucks and do metal fabrication for a living and I have a really difficult time finding shoes for wearing in my shop. It seems the choices are either leather work boots that are heavy and have flat soles and kill your feet after a few hours, or comfy walking/running shoes that are made from synthetic materials that melt or catch fire when exposed to welding sparks. Generally I have to choose between having soles that hurt from the shoes, or pain from burns on the top of my feet.I know these shoes aren’t marketed as any kind of work shoe, but they are leather, and with no laces or gaps they work very well for keeping the sparks out. Better yet they are comfortable, really comfortable. Usually a new pair of shoes needs a little time to break in, but I put these on when they arrived and have worn them every day since ( about 2 weeks) and haven’t thought about my feet once, and that is exactly how it should be. I kinda feel a little bad that they are such nice looking shoes and I know I’m going to ruin them in the shop, but it’s totally worth it for comfy shoes that don’t catch fire. One note, before ordering these I ordered the pro-grip professional version which has a different non-slip sole on them. When I tried them on I instantly put them back in the box because they were about a half size too big. After reading some reviews I found that the pro grip version runs big so I ordered these in the same size and they fit perfectly. I don’t need the non-slip sole so these are perfect for me. I only wore the others for a couple minutes so I cant comment any more on them.UPDATE 6-28-16. I’ve now had these shoes just over a year and though they are starting to show their age, they are still doing great. The soles are still intact, though starting to get a bit worn and the rubber piece that goes up the toe is starting to peel off. The elastic is getting a little stretched, and the insoles are pretty well done, BUT I’ve been wearing them pretty much every day in my workshop which is a pretty abusive environment. They have held up far better than any other shoe I’ve tried, about 4 times better so far, as I normally only get 3-4 months out of a pair of shop shoes. I was thinking about replacing them soon, but I think I’m just gonna get some new insoles and see how long they last. I loved these shoes when I got them, and I’m even more impressed a year later.Read more
